#FOP

About the forum

Taking place during Forum the annual meeting of patient organisation leaders with national health policy-makers - including the Minister of Health, the President of the NFZ, the Patient Ombudsman and public health experts - provides a space for the integration of the community and enables leaders to highlight the most important problems they face in their day-to-day activities.

The Forum is complemented by regular meetings miniFOPwhich take place several times a year and allow for in-depth discussions in smaller groups. MiniFOP is an initiative that allows for the ongoing exchange of experiences, working on specific issues and creating recommendations in response to the dynamically changing challenges of the health system.

The occasion for the main meeting of patient organisations is World Day of the Sick, celebrated on 11 February. Organised by the Institute for Patient Rights and Health Education, the event brings together more than 150 organisation leaders each year, representing the voice of tens of thousands of patients from across Poland. Discussions include current public health challenges, the future of the healthcare system, technological innovations in medicine and the quality of the everyday patient experience.

Purpose and mission

11 February
World Day of the Sick

World Day of the Sick is celebrated on 11 February each year and is a special opportunity to express respect and appreciation to healthcare workers, volunteers, family members, organisations and all those who selflessly dedicate themselves to the well-being of the sick.

This feast was established by Pope John Paul II on 13 May 1992, on the 11th anniversary of the attempt on his life. World Day of the Sick encourages efforts to relieve the suffering of those who are struggling to cope with illness. It also emphasises that suffering is a kind of trial in life, which is difficult to cope with on one's own. Adequate medical care is not enough, but a sincere heart shown by another person is also needed. Selfless, self-sacrificing and fraternal love for a person in need of our attention is not only an irreplaceable form of therapy for the sick person himself, but also an opportunity to discover valuable humanistic and spiritual values in ourselves.
